Welcome to Year One!

In Year One, we aim to inspire the children to become respectful, confident individuals who have a genuine love of learning. We teach in a calm and supportive environment where every child’s views are valued and their best interests are at the heart of everything we do. We encourage children to share their mistakes openly, helping them learn and grow their brains.

To help children feel safe and secure, we follow a consistent daily routine supported by a visual timetable shared each morning. Our class mantra also supports positivity and confidence, reminding children to believe in themselves every day.

Building positive relationships is a priority. We have already begun fostering friendships within the classroom and will continue to nurture a space where every child feels safe, respected, and heard. We also value strong partnerships with parents and carers, keeping you involved through regular communication via Class Dojo. We share important reminders and celebrate your children’s learning with photos and updates.

Every week, we celebrate a special child in our whole-school celebration assembly where certificates are awarded and adults are invited in. Within the classroom, children work together in teams through our table points system, with prizes for the winning group. We also recognise individual achievements on our recognition wall and send home postcards to celebrate successes.

Our curriculum is rich, varied, and designed to ignite curiosity and imagination. We encourage children to ask questions and have a voice in their learning, adapting teaching to their needs and interests. We want every child to enjoy being young and to have fun, especially through exciting trips and visits. At the same time, we guide behaviour through our school rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Ready.

All school work follows the Primary National Curriculum, with a focus on developing independence and removing any limits on what children can achieve. Our goal is to grow autonomous, kind, confident, collaborative, and ambitious learners who believe they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We are excited to watch your children flourish throughout the year!
